The no audio was never a big deal for me until i had it. The Red implementation is great, though i haven't had a red job since getting resolve, but just playing around with it, it's a much better implementation.

I feel like i'm now much faster with Resolve than i ever was with Color. Things that I missed from Color I've found ways to work around, and the new version of Resolve will have Hue and Saturation Curves, which were the main thing i was missing.

I've had some stability issues though, and i've trained myself to save often. Apparently auto save can cause problems, so i've been going without it. It'll just randomly lock up, and i'll have to force quit.

All in all though, i can't ever go back. The render times are astonishingly quick. Conforming can be a real pain though, but i've been figuring it out the best i can. I'll be getting the next Mac Pro and a new Raid whenever the new towers come out, and i'll spec it to the exact specs, and it'll hopefully solve my stability issues. I'm following the guide, but i've kinda mixed two of their recommended setups. But more and more, i have the feeling it's my raid that's the issue, but i'm not entirely sure.

I don't think I knew you had a blog. Interesting as I've never been a huge fan of Color. The no audio thing, the RED Raw, the tracker. What are your thoughts two months down the road?

Comment on Final Cut Studio Virtual Clusters by brandon

You can also export a quicktime reference file to use in compressor, which can take less time and space than a self contained file.

I like having a "quicktime master," and then being able to work inside final cut while the files are being compressed in compressor, instead of tying to use the send to/export using compressor option within fcp. Then if i need to make new files for the web or whatever, i can use that quicktime master instead of locking up final cut again making new files.

If you're referring to the Pro Applications Update 2010-02, i don't think it affects anything with fcp/compressor workflow. I wouldn't expect any improvements there until the next version of Final Cut Studio.

Thanks for the information, not new though.
The last time I used that just fu**ed up my install, and this is for one simple problem known by all : you can't send directly from FCP to the Compressor cluster. Doing this mess up everything and you end with an error.
Compressor Cluster can only be used to convert video files with compressor.
This means you first have to render the whole movie in full quality in FCP, then bring it to Compressor and use the cluster to create other file formats.

Maybe there is something "new" with the lately announced update of FCP, but as far as I know, it's not the case.

Please, correct me or advise your users of this.
